Apple Music is a great service for people who want to listen to music on the go. But starting at $9.99 per month, this can get to be expensive for some families or individuals that don’t use Apple Music too often. Luckily, Apple will be offering a cheaper plan called the “Apple Music Voice Plan.” This article will explain what this plan entails and whether or not you should get it! You can also watch a quick overview if you’d rather watch than read.
Does the Apple Music Voice Plan Let Me Listen to Everything I Want?
The Voice Plan, allows you to be able to listen to the entire Apple Music catalog the same way you would with a regular subscription. There’s no limit to the catalog of songs that you can access with this cheaper plan. This plan allows you to continue to enjoy all the 90 million songs available in Apple’s inventory for only $4.99 per month.
With the Voice plan, users can play music across any Siri-enabled device. You can simply ask Siri to play your song whether you’re using an iPhone, iPad, Homepod or Airpods.
What Can’t I Do With the Apple Music Voice Plan?
The lower price for the Voice plan also comes with some reduction in features. These are the things that you CAN’T do with an Apple Music Voice Plan:
- Can’t control the music using the app: The biggest catch of this plan is that subscribers to the voice plan are not able to control music via the Apple Music app. Subscribers can only control music via Siri voice commands.
- No Access to the full Apple Music App: Voice plan subscribers will only have a minimized apple music app experience. The app will only show voice accessible suggestions based on your previous listening and will include some how-to tips on using Siri commands for music.
- Can’t utilize the Dolby Spatial Audio
- No lossless audio
- Unable to utilize lyrics view
- Can’t download songs to your library
If you plan on using these features frequently, then it may be best to go ahead and purchase a regular full-price Apple Music subscription. In the end, Apple is offering a cheaper plan with some limitations for those who don’t use these features as often and are okay with voice-only music control.
How and When can I sign up for the Voice Plan?
You can sign up for the Voice Plan through Siri by saying “Hey Siri, start my Apple Music Voice trial,” or by signing up through the Apple Music app. Apple Music Voice will be available later this fall in select countries including Australia, Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Although this plan is half the price of a regular Apple Music subscription, it comes with greatly reduced functionality. If you’re someone who doesn’t use Apple Music features like the ability to download music, lossless audio, Spatial Audio and you’re okay with no app control, then this is a great plan for you! But if you can’t see yourself enjoying the Apple Music experience without these features, then we highly recommend staying away from this plan. The discount is not worth the features you’re missing out on.
