In the past, Panasonic cameras have been overlooked for video, due to their subpar autofocus. With the recent release of the Panasonic Lumix S5II, the aspects that hindered the Lumix line in terms of video have been removed! Lumix cameras bring a lot of value to the table when it comes to video production.

Lumix cameras used to have poor autofocus systems, but the recent release of the Lumix S5II has flipped that narrative. The Lumix S5II employs a new phase detect auto focus system that is rock solid.
The new autofocus system implemented in Lumix cameras allows you to trust the camera more during your shoot. I’ve personally used the Lumix S5II to film both weddings and corporate events. I haven’t had any issues with the AF system missing focus. I’ve had scenarios where the AF sticks too well to a subject, but that’s the kind of problem I would rather have!
Lightweight and Portable Design
Many Panasonic Lumix cameras are compact and lightweight, making them highly portable and ideal for shooting on the go. This is super beneficial for videographers who need to move quickly or shoot on gimbals. The light weight of the Lumix cameras makes them easy to mount on a gimbal, leaving you enough capacity to mount additional accessories. I’ve shot with some heavy setups on my gimbal, and I have to say, the light weight of my Lumix cameras have really saved my body!

Lumix cameras utilize both the APSC, Micro Four Thirds and Full Frame sensors. The variety in sensor size, open up access to a vast selection of high-quality lenses on their L-Mount. Panasonic has joined with Leica, Sigma and a few other manufactures to form the L-Mount Alliance. This partnership allows users to ‘mix and match’ any of the manufacturers’ APS-C and full-frame cameras with any lens from each other’s product portfolios. The alliance opens up a whole new lens ecosystem for Lumix camera owners to tap into for their videos!
